May Crowning
Ladies of the Altar Society, St. Charles School children, and members of our faith community were on hand Friday, May 7th for the annual crowning of Mary.  But something was different... at the beginning of the mass, Mary was hidden behind a white veil.  Fr. Phil quickly explained the mystery.  Our Altar Society had generously donated the funds to have our Blessed Mother statue (over 100 years old) restored.  After the gospel reading, the statue was unveiled by the ladies of the Altar Society, and given a blessing by Fr. Phil.
May crowning is always a special occasion:  the second grade class, attired in their First Communion finery, lined the aisle for the procession of the 8th grade girls, who adorned Mary with a beautiful wreath of flowers, assisted in collecting fresh flowers from each school child and placing them in vases around the Blessed Mother.  After mass, members of the congregation gathered around the statue to admire the restoration, comment on the lush colors chosen for her 'new' look, and say a private prayer.  Please enjoy this slide show from the event.
